For most travelers i recommend a visitors insurance policy.

Our insurance is there for us when we need it. We do not use it regularly – in fact we have never applied. We pay our medical expenses out of pocket and does not require coverage for illness or major accident. Since medical costs are very reasonable in many parts of the world, it would take too long to accumulate enough bills to exceed our $ 5000 deductible!
Although most procedures are reasonably priced in most countries, an air ambulance could easily cost you up to $ 100,000. In other words, you can Fluke accident or medical condition put you in the poor house for the rest of your life if you do not have insurance. And in the end, the risk is simply not worth it.
